Settings such as sleep when the cover is closed

  • Do nothing: Does not turn off the screen or put it to sleep when the lid is closed. However, it will sleep at the set time.
  • Sleep: Goes to sleep as soon as the cover is closed.
  • Hibernate: Hibernates as soon as you close the cover. See below for a description of hibernation.
  • Shutdown: Automatically shuts down when the cover is closed.

Difference Between Sleep and Hibernate on PC

■ What is Sleep?

Sleep is a low power consumption state in which the PC is not turned off. In Sleep, the screen and some hardware are turned off, but the memory is still powered, so your open apps and work in progress are still there and are still available when you wake from Sleep. .

■ What is hibernation?

Hibernation does not completely turn off the power of the computer, but since it is basically a state in which the power is turned off, the data in the memory is saved to the disk drive before hibernation. When hibernation is entered, some memory retains power so that memory data saved to the disk drive can be restored. When resuming from hibernation, the return time is slower than in sleep mode because the previous state is restored.

Other sleep settings and workarounds

Presence or absence of password when waking from sleep

When returning from sleep, you can set whether to display the sign-in screen and request password entry, or to display the desktop (home) screen immediately. Please see the following page for details.

Can’t wake up from sleep

If you can’t wake up from sleep, reset the power management, troubleshoot the power supply, and if it doesn’t improve, run the system file checker. Emergency response will be forcibly terminated when recovery is not possible.

Sleep wakes up on its own

If sleep returns on its own, check the settings such as disabling “wake timer” in power options and “automatic maintenance”. If you don’t know the cause, check the cause with “Event Viewer” and deal with it. The following page is an explanation using Windows 10, but the operation and workaround are the same for Windows 11, so please refer to it.
