Delete Windows 11 User Account

Windows 11 user account can be deleted from “Accounts” in “Settings” for both local and Microsoft accounts. If the user cannot be deleted due to system trouble, etc., it is also possible to delete the user from the command prompt. Deleting a user requires administrator privileges. This page describes how to delete a user account.

Delete User Account

Open account settings

Click the Start button, then click Settings in Start.
 Click “Account” to display the account settings screen.

Click “Family & other users” under Accounts.  Click the user account you want to remove.  

All files for a user are deleted
When you delete a user account, that user’s folders are deleted. If you have necessary files or data, please back them up by moving them before deleting the user.

Click Delete when the content is displayed.  A confirmation screen will appear asking “Are you sure you want to delete your account and data?” Click “Delete account and data”.
 Wait until the user is deleted.
 If the “Family and other users” screen is displayed and the deleted user disappears, the process is complete.
 If the user cannot be deleted, try the method of deleting with the command prompt in the next section.

Delete User from Command Prompt

When deleting from the command prompt, the user account folder is retained without being deleted. User folders must be manually deleted after restarting the computer. 

1. Launch Command Prompt

  • After pressing the “Windows” key on your keyboard, press ” cmd “.
  • When the search screen appears, click “Run as administrator” in Command Prompt.

*This operation is the same as entering “cmd” in the search. 

From the Start menu
To start from the Start menu, click “All apps” and click “Windows Tools” in the list to open Explorer, right-click “Command Prompt” and select “Run as administrator” “Click. 

2. Confirm User Account

Confirm the user first, then perform the deletion. The user name of the Microsoft account is the first five characters of the ID name. Type net user and press Enter on your keyboard.

3. Delete User Account

Type ” net user user account name to delete /delete ” and press “Enter” on your keyboard to delete it immediately.
net user marionet /delete
If “The command completed successfully.” is displayed, the deletion is successful. 

4. Restart your computer (recommended)

Before deleting the user folder, restart your computer and sign in with a user account that has administrator privileges.
You may not be able to delete the folder completely because you will see warnings such as where the user folder was deleted without rebooting, and where some files could not be deleted during execution. 

5. Deleting user folders

Click the “>” icon in File Explorer to open your user folder.

  • 〉PC
  • 〉Local Disk (C:)

 Delete the folder with the deleted username.
Click the trash can icon in the right-click menu of the folder.
 If the deleted user name folder disappears from the user folder, the process is complete.
 This completes the deletion of the user account, which deletes the user folder by command and manually when the normal deletion of the user account is not possible.
