How to install software from CD to a laptop via USB

In the internet age, the vast majority of software is downloaded rather than installed via CD-ROM. Appropriately, many smaller notebooks, netbooks and small form factor computers now lack a CD or DVD drive to save space and weight. But retail software sales aren’t dead yet, and, on occasion, it may be necessary to access the contents of the CD-ROM with your computer. You’ll need an external CD or DVD with a USB connection, available at most electronics stores. Things You’ll Need
Windows XP, Vista, or 7 computer
CD-ROM connected via external USB or DVD-ROM drive
Software CD or DVD

Turn on your computer and log in If your external CD or DVD drive requires external power, plug it into an electrical outlet. Connect the USB cable to the unit and to the computer.

Open the drive, insert the software CD or DVD, and wait for it to load. If an installer window appears immediately above, follow the instructions and install the software. If not, go to Step 3.

Click the “Start” button, then “Computer” or “My Computer”. Double click on the software icon. Locate the installation file, it is usually the name of the software itself followed by the suffix or “exe”. “Setup.exe”. Double-click the file and follow the instructions to install the software.
